Scheduled to coincide with residence hall move-in, Welcome Weekend is packed with opportunities to meet great people, get acquainted with the campus and community and learn about the many services and programs that will help you succeed as a Petrel.

Mark Your Calendar for Welcome Weekend Fall Orientation!
Welcome Weekend (which includes Orientation!) is mandatory for ALL students! International students should plan to arrive Thursday, August 15. Residential and Commuter Students should plan to arrive on Friday, August 16. Transfer students should plan to arrive on Saturday, August 17. More information about timing and arrival instructions will be sent out later in the summer.

Community Lunch and Resource Fair
Enjoy a free lunch on the Quad and browse an exciting selection of Atlanta businesses and Oglethorpe resources. Representatives from Parking, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Registrar (Lupton), and IT Services (Library) will be present to assist with account setup and questions. Dr. Schall, the University President, will give his official welcome to the incoming class near the end of this event.

Family Goodbye Time – Various
Feel free to return to your residence hall before officially checking in to orientation activities

Orientation Day 1 Check-In, Activities and Dinner – Turner Lynch Campus Center, 1st Floor Lobby**
ALL first-time students (Residential, Commuter, and International) are required to check-in for our first official Welcome Week orientation event – prior registration is not needed

Residents: Residence Hall Meetings – Various*
Residents will be momentarily dismissed from orientation activities to meet their Resident Advisors and receive important information

Target After Dark – Buckhead Target
Special deals, food, and a DJ await you as a shuttle will move between campus and Target


Breakfast Available – TLCC Dining Hall

9:45AM –10AM
Day 2 Check-In – Schmidt Recreation Center***
ALL first-time students (Residential, Commuter, and International) are required to check-in for our second day of official Welcome Week orientation events

10AM – 3PM
Welcome Week Activities Continue – Various***
Enjoy leadership activities, free lunch, information on campus safety, the official new student photo, and more.

3PM – 5PM
Free Time – Various
Prepare for an evening off-campus

5PM – 9PM
Dinner and the Atlanta History Center – Turner Lynch Campus Center***
Enjoy the Atlanta History Center after a dinner dedicated to learning about student diversity. ALL new students (Residential, Commuter, and Transfer) are required to check-in and use university transportation for this event– dinner is provided.


Breakfast Available – TLCC Dining Hall

Worship Service OR Yoga – Turner Lynch Campus Center 225 or Lawn
Enjoy a service by Chaplain John Richardson, or meditate during a yoga session

Day 3 Check-In – Schmidt
ALL first-time students (Residential, Commuter, and International) are required to check-in for our third day of official Welcome Week orientation events

Welcome Week Activities Continue – Various**
Learn about Oglethorpe history and traditions, a keynote on wellness, lunch with student leaders, and more!

Free Time – Various
Grab some of your new friends and eat together in the Petrel’s Nest Dining Hall

President’s Reception – Lanier House
Use your free time to get ready for the next week of classes, then prepare to visit the President’s house by dressing in nicer casual attire.

Welcome Week continues:


“Ask Me” Tent 9AM-3PM, Academic Quad

Look for the big tent on the Quad where there will be free advice, classroom directions, and free giveaways all day.

Affinity Group Socials – 4PM-6PM, Turner Lynch Campus Center

Oglethorpe students bring their diverse identities, talents, and perspectives to our community. Meet student groups the help foster inclusivity on our campus like Black Student Caucus, Outlet, the Transfer Student Organization, the Latinx Organization, First-Generation Petrels, and more in a come-and-go social setting! (A full listing of groups will be published in your welcome packet when you arrive for Orientation.)


Greek Block Party: 7PM-9PM, Conant Veranda

GO GREEK! Meet the nine social Greek organizations on our campus. You can see them all beforehand here


Recreation & Wellness Night: 7PM-9PM, Turner Lynch Campus Center

Learn how to properly care for yourself in college. There will be opportunities to learn about mental health upkeep, a stress-free pet zone, activities to get your heart going, and more!


Student Involvement Fair: 5PM-8PM, TLCC Lawn

A new student favorite! Visit this fair to sign up for about 60 student organization opportunities. You’ll have a hard time picking which ones to be a part of!


New Student Convocation***: 1PM-3PM, Conant Theatre

A yearly new student tradition, this is where your entire class will sign the Honor Code.

QuadFest: 5PM-8PM, Academic Quad

Celebrate the start of the new academic year with a themed celebration on the quad! Brought to you by the Student Government Association’s Programming Board.


Orientation Day of Service: 10AM-3PM, Various***

Make a difference by going out into the community to serve.

Campus Center Takeover: 4PM-8PM, Turner Lynch Campus Center

Come back from a morning of service to refreshing snacks and an opportunity to unwind before your first week of college!

Pre-Attendance Checklist:

These items must be completed before you can attend this event:

  • Notify us of Academic Accommodation/Accessibility Needs: New students who require accommodation should notify Accessibility Services in the Academic Success Center as soon as possible after submitting the enrollment deposit, and at least two weeks before the first day of classes. Email accessibility@oglethorpe.edu to discuss the requested accommodation or to make an appointment.
  • Send us a Photo for your Petrel Pass: Your Petrel Pass is your student ID and will be used to access your residence hall, check out library books, access the dining hall and more. This picture does not need to be formal, it just needs to look like you! Please make sure photos of your face are taken straight on with no hats or glasses. Send your photo to helpdesk@oglethorpe.edu.
  • Purchase a Parking Permit: If you plan to bring a car to campus, you must purchase a parking permit. More information on permits will be sent via email in early August. Stay tuned!
