Get Connected In Your New Community!

Scheduled to coincide with residence hall move-in, Welcome Weekend is packed with opportunities to meet great people, get acquainted with the campus and community and learn about the many services and programs that will help you succeed as a Petrel.

Your first day on campus will be a busy one, so come to campus prepared by referencing the schedule below:

FRIDAY, AUGUST 18th

Residence Hall Move-In for New Students

10AM-1PM
Visit the HUB or IT – Lupton Hall, Philip Weltner Library
Representatives from Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Registrar (Lupton), and IT Services (Library) will be present to assist with account setup and questions

12-2PM
Dining Hall Open – Turner Lynch Campus Center, Petrel’s Nest Dining Hall
Parents and guests are invited to eat with their student – cash and credit cards will be accepted

12-2PM
Community Fair – Academic Quad
Food, service, and merchandise vendors from around Atlanta will be waiting to meet you

2:30-3PM
New Petrel Welcome – Academic Quad
Enjoy an address for the entire family by President Schall

3–4PM
Family Goodbye Time – Various
Feel free to return to your residence hall before officially checking in to orientation activities

4–6PM
Day 1 Check-In, Activities and Dinner – Turner Lynch Campus Center, 1st Floor Lobby
ALL first-time students (Residential, Commuter, and International) are required to check-in for our first official Welcome Week orientation event – prior registration is not needed

7-8PM
Residents: Residence Hall Meetings – Various
Residents will be momentarily dismissed from orientation activities to meet their Resident Advisors and receive important information

8PM-10PM
Target After Dark – Buckhead Target
Special deals, food, and a DJ await you as a shuttle will move between campus and Target

SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th

8–9:30AM
Breakfast Available – TLCC Dining Hall

9:30AM –10AM
Day 2 Check-In – Schmidt
ALL first-time students (Residential, Commuter, and International) are required to check-in for our second day of official Welcome Week orientation events

10AM – 3PM
Welcome Week Activities Continue – Various
Enjoy hilarious skits, a lunch with important alumni, information on academic success, and more

10AM – 3PM
Free Time – Various
Prepare for an evening in Downtown Atlanta

5PM – 9PM
A Trip to the Center for Civil and Human Rights
ALL first-time students (Residential, Commuter, and International) are required to check-in and use university transportation for this event– dinner is provided

SUNDAY, AUGUST 20th

8–11AM
Breakfast Available – TLCC Dining Hall

10–11AM
Worship Service OR Personal Reflection – Turner Lynch Campus Center 225, Great Hall of Hearst
Enjoy a service by Chaplain John Richardson, or personally reflect in our Serenity Room

Enjoy a pep rally, a keynote on wellness, lunch with student leaders, Small Group competitions, and more!

Use your free time to get ready for a fabulous time with our President and First Lady in their home – shuttles from campus will be provided

These items must be completed before you can attend this event:

  • Notify us of academic accommodation/accessibility needs: New students who require accommodation should notify Accessibility Services in the Academic Success Center as soon as possible after submitting the enrollment deposit, and at least two weeks before the first day of classes. Email accessibility@oglethorpe.edu to discuss the requested accommodation or to make an appointment.
  • Send us a photo for your Petrel Pass: Your Petrel Pass is your student ID and will be used to access your residence hall, check out library books, pay for meals in the dining hall and more. This picture does not need to be formal, it just needs to look like you! Please make sure photos are taken straight on and please no hats or glasses. Send your photo to helpdesk@oglethorpe.edu.
  • Purchase a parking permit: If you plan to bring a car to campus, you need to purchase a parking permit. More information on permits will be sent via email in early August. Stay tuned!
